Happy July! Sitting down to write this I was thinking, how are we already half way through 2019?! But when I reflect on Viamo’s impact, partnerships, and projects from the first half of the year, it feels like it must have been even longer than six months! I’d like to take this opportunity to thank you, our partners, for their contributions to this success, highlight for you some of my personal favorite impact stories, and share some of our most exciting plans for the second half of the year.
This year so far in numbers:The following successful projects are especially meaningful to me because they offer evidence of the impact of mobile for development at scale:
In the first half of 2019 we invested in maturing two of our newer products: chatbots on social networks, and our virtual call center. We deepened the Facebook integration of our chatbot product, adding the ability to sync Facebook public profile information, add rich media content, and utilize advanced question types to create personalized messaging and deeper impact. We upgraded our virtual call center – the only solution that offers an instant cloud-based call center that works over local phone lines in developing countries – with many new features for quality control, supervisor monitoring, advanced CATI capabilities, and improved reliability over low bandwidth connections. Fully integrated with the Viamo core platform, these two products are helping our partners serve new audiences best reached through these new channels.
It has also been an impressive six months of growth for our flagship product, the 3-2-1 Service:
This is more than 160,000 new listeners and almost double the amount of key messages listened to compared to this time last year. This means we are impacting more end-users who are receiving important messages on relevant topics such as health, education, agriculture, legal aid, etc. that help them make more informed decisions to live healthier, more productive lives.
Last month we also launched our 3-2-1 Service in Nepal, locally called “Suchanako Sansaar” or “World of Information”, and have already received over 100,000 calls. We look forward to launching the 3-2-1 Service in at least one more new country by the end of the year.
With our dedication to improving user experience, ensuring quality content, and reaching new users, we are on track to reach our goal of 7.8 million listeners and 50 million key messages in 2019, as well as continue to double our impact year over year.

Thanks to you, we are not only increasing our role in designing impactful programs using mobile, but also in measuring the outcomes and impact of these projects. As an additional commitment in 2019, Viamo is developing a specialized expertise in design and measurement of mobile interventions.
