The COVID-19 pandemic has turned the world upside down. With more than 17 million cases and 670,000 deaths worldwide since the beginning of the year, almost everyone has been affected. The world has changed quickly in response to this global pandemic. Viamo and our partners provided much-needed access to information to key populations at the base of the economic pyramid. I am proud of our efforts to ensure that millions of people have the information they need to make informed decisions for themselves, their families, and their communities.
Since the WHO declared a pandemic on March 11th, we have launched over 40 projects in 18 different countries with our partners focused on COVID-19 response. As of today, we have reached nearly 15 million people who have listened to more than 45 million key pieces of information relating to COVID-19. This pandemic has made it clear that a mobile phone engagement strategy is not just a nice-to-have add on, but an essential element for all development programs to ensure that even in times of crisis, we do not leave anyone behind. I’d like to take this opportunity to thank our partners for their contributions to this success and highlight our plans for the second half of this year.

It has also been an unprecedented six months of growth for our flagship product, the 3-2-1 Service:
This is a 122% increase in listeners, and a 263% increase in the number of key messages listened to, compared to this time last year. The 3-2-1 Service is a trusted source of information in 18 countries, where callers can access important messages on relevant topics such as COVID-19, general health, education, agriculture, legal aid, and more, whenever they need. This information helps them make more informed decisions to live healthier, more productive lives. When COVID-19 hit, we experienced an immediate spike in calls as our listeners turned to us for information on the pandemic. We used our own resources to add WHO-approved messaging on the virus and joined with our partners, including the Ministries of Health, to continually update the information.
In the past 6 months we have also launched two new 3-2-1 Services: Niger, in February, and Indonesia just last month. In Niger, over 223,000 users have already listened to 918,000 life-enhancing key messages. We look forward to continuing our negotiations with our telecom partners in a number of countries to launch new 3-2-1 Services in the next 12 months, so we can continue to provide free information to millions more low-literacy mobile subscribers who currently lack access to reliable information.
We are well on our way to exceed our 2020 goal of 8.8 million listeners and over 100 million key messages listened to on our 3-2-1 Services globally.
In the first half of 2020 our tech team worked hard on two key products while maintaining our existing suite. The first is our Viamo Android app, which improves our partners’ ability to collect data and train frontline workforces, and integrates with existing behavior change products such as the mReferral app. This channel works on Viamo’s multifunctional platform just like our SMS, IVR, and social media channels, allowing for multifaceted approaches that will continue to unlock potential for development programs. We have also enhanced our Advanced Reporting app. We added the ability to link our data with various business intelligence tools in order to enhance or data monitoring and visualization capabilities. These investments will allow us to improve how Viamo helps our partners monitor, evaluate, and learn from their data.
