Along with you, Viamo is working rapidly to respond to the COVID-19 pandemic. Our COVID-19 response projects make essential information available to millions of people through their mobile phones, information that can help save lives.
Viamo is currently using three core modules to support our partners in responding to COVID-19 rapidly, cost-effectively, and at scale:
Module 1: Behavior Change Communication through the 3-2-1 Service and large-scale push voice and SMS campaigns.
Module 2: Remote Training for Community Health Workers.
Module 3: Mobile Surveys for hygiene, social distancing knowledge measurement, and healthcare access monitoring.
The 3-2-1 Service
Viamo’s flagship product, the 3-2-1 Service, is a free information service available in 18 different countries globally. Callers can access pre-recorded audio messages in local languages for free.
Here is our reach to date from COVID-19 messages on our 3-2-1 Service globally:
Viamo currently offers the 3-2-1 Service in the following countries:
Countries in bold: Basic, WHO-approved information on COVID-19 is available.
All other countries: actively working with partners and ministries to make COVID-19 information available.
In Ghana, Malawi, Nepal, Uganda and Tanzania we have also launched a Wanji Game in partnership with Peripheral Vision International (PVI) about COVID-19. We use this interactive “listen-then-choose” audio game to promote positive behavior and to test players’ current knowledge and understanding of prevention techniques.
In Malawi, in addition to the COVID-19 messages on our 3-2-1 Service, we are also directing people to the CCPF call center if they need additional information. This existing call center is a partnership between the MOH, VillageReach and Viamo.

Large-Scale Push Campaigns
With our local telephone company partners, Viamo develops customized, targeted voice and text message campaigns. Through this strategy, our partners share prevention messages, provide information about healthcare services, and provide accurate updates on the outbreak, while correcting false information and rumors.
In Pakistan, Viamo has partnered with UNICEF to send awareness messages on social distancing in 60 high-risk locations using Targeted Mass Messaging (TMM), aiming to reach at least 7 million listeners. We have also partnered with the International Rescue Committee (IRC) to send 1.5 million citizens, identified as extremely vulnerable, a series of specialized voice messages. We will follow up this campaign with a knowledge, attitude, and practice survey to measure impact.
Viamo conducts COVID-19 research for our partners via mobile phone, including baseline surveys, national public opinion polls, and targeted surveys Mobile surveys cut across distance, language and literacy barriers and provide our partners with insightful data to help inform social and behavior change communication and community outreach efforts. Mobile surveys enable your organization to collect data remotely, ensuring the continuation of your project timeline as well as the safety of your staff and the public.
In Nepal, we launched a rapid mobile survey with UNDP/UNRCO to measure the knowledge, attitudes and practices surrounding COVID-19 to identify information needs and trusted sources of information.
