To combat the COVID-19 pandemic, we need foresight and preparation and the ability to tap into strategic stockpiles of essential resources. As the news focuses on what countries have (and don’t have) in their stockpiles, we at Viamo are also relying on the solutions that we’ve built, tested, and have at the ready to combat information and skills gaps to diminish global suffering. Viamo has two key contributions in our “stockpile” that are already being deployed in the fight against COVID-19:

1) On-the-ground expertise to help our partners adapt and optimize their content, perhaps for the first time, for the mobile channel and;
2) Airtime minutes

Viamo offers both of these valuable resources to our partners.

Currently, we have over 25 in-country offices worldwide and are well-positioned to launch projects extremely quickly. Our in-country teams are experts in digital strategy advice and implementation, and know the best options for reaching people on the devices they already have in their pockets, on the channels they use every day.

Now let’s talk about airtime. In collaboration with our local telephone partners, we have launched the 3-2-1 Service in 18 countries, giving over 200 million subscribers access to essential information. Last year our telephone company partners donated a total of:

We can quickly mobilize projects and disseminate information thanks to our direct partnerships with local telephone companies. In fact, this year, they’ve already donated 5.8 million minutes to our COVID-19 response.  

We have existing mobile infrastructure in 26 countries, remote connectivity solutions in more than 75 other countries, and mobile solutions that span the globe. This gives Viamo an unparalleled ability to reach people anywhere in the world via mobile.

The 3-2-1 Service

Viamo’s flagship product, the 3-2-1 Service, is a free information service available in 18 different countries globally. Callers can access pre-recorded audio messages in local languages for free.

To date, more than 880,000 people have accessed over 5 million key pieces of information through our 3-2-1 Service:

 

COVID-19 information is now accessible in 14 out of the 18 countries that the Service is available in.

Viamo is currently using three core modules to support our partners in responding to COVID-19 rapidly, cost-effectively, and at scale:

Module 1: Behavior Change Communication through the 3-2-1 Service and large-scale push voice and SMS campaigns.

Module 2: Remote Training for Community Health Workers.

Module 3: Mobile Surveys for hygiene, social distancing knowledge measurement, and healthcare access monitoring.
