Happy New Year! As we begin 2019, it seems like a great time to reflect on our impact, partnerships and projects, and share our plans for the new year.
First, I wanted to say thank you to the organisations that partnered with Viamo in 2018 to deliver their programming through mobile. We are proud to be a part of this great movement to use technology to increase the scale and sustainability of development efforts, and proud to help organizations add mobile engagement as an important tool to increase the reach and frequency of their interactions with their key stakeholders. We are grateful for the partnerships and projects we’ve been involved with this past year, and we are excited by the impact we will have in the future. And of course, we are always keen to hear your feedback.
2018 was a year of important scale;
In 2019, our goal is to double our partnerships and number of mobile engagement projects. We hope to achieve this partly through opening 5 new country offices throughout Africa and Asia (bringing us to a total of 25), as well as a new European Partnerships office!
I am also proud of our dedicated tech team, who developed and launched two new products in 2018: our Facebook Chatbot and our Call Center App. The Facebook Chatbot enables user-driven interactions on a platform that end-users access on a daily basis to gather information on pertinent topics. Facebook Chatbots also allow organisations to conduct interactive surveys to collect meaningful feedback. The Call Center App enables a virtual space, with little resources required, to collect and inform populations on a large scale on mobile phones. In 2019, we look forward to launching three more new products: Integration with mobile money, e-vouchers, and WhatsApp Chatbots. This will allow us to expand significantly the scope of our mobile engagement projects, and offer more diverse services to our partners.
It was also an impressive year of growth for the 3-2-1 Service;
– this is a 2.5x growth in listeners and 15 million more key messages listened to compared to 2017. This means we are impacting more end-users who are receiving important messages on health, education, agriculture, legal aid, etc. – at an exponential rate. We are so proud of this impact growth, and we hope to more than double these numbers in 2019.
